WHO IS TRAVIS ERLAM?

Travis Erlam is the owner of Dark Horse Martial Arts and received his Black Belt in August of 2022 from Drew Weatherhead of BecauseJitsu fame. Travis started dabbling with Brazilian and Japanese Jiu Jitsu in 2008 after watching the Ultimate Fighter season one and becoming hooked on watching the grappling aspect of MMA. After moving to Canmore in 2013 he started training regularly at a local club which unfortunately closed which led to an opportunity to open a space of his own. In August of 2015 Travis, along with a friend and fellow BJJ training partner opened up Bow Valley Jiu Jitsu, this was later changed to Dark Horse Martial Arts in 2021. Travis regularly competes in local grappling tournaments across western Canada, has fought several times in MMA for promotions such as Unified MMA and Rumble in the Cage, and recently started competing in Tag Team Jiu Jitsu under the Tag-a-Palooza banner. Often known as the leglock guy, Travis has been training leglocks since he was a white belt but he loves to exploit any opportunity and attacks whatever is given to him. Travis along with a few other members of DHMA, Carter Haines and Dan Peters, started a tournament which is hosted in Banff a few times a year, the Dark Horse Grappling Series, which has quickly become a destination tournament for those that love the Sub Only, Round Robin format!
